Smith Teamaker, Shibuya: Open From Ten, When Nothing Else Is

A note on the words: this Shibuya branch is said to be Smith Teamaker’s first flagship store. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Smith Teamaker, Shibuya branch

Smith Teamaker, Shibuya on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.

Drinkers, thank you for waiting. It is Hangover Meshi time.

Today we are not drinking! Tea. It is teatime!

Smith Teamaker”, a tea room on the 4th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square. It sits next door to a shop selling the leaves themselves, so you can drink something here and then buy the leaves to take home. This time I dropped in simply to pass a little time!

Smith Teamaker, Shibuya branch

A very stylish space^^

There are various teas, sweet things, and light dishes such as croque monsieur. The notice suggests the teas rotate periodically, so presumably the range varies; on this visit there were four: Spring Greens, Lord Bergamot, Peppermint Leaves and Jasmine Nectar. Each available iced or hot. Hot for me today!

This Shibuya shop is apparently Smith Teamaker’s first flagship store

Once you order they brew it carefully — with the steeping, it takes about ten minutes.

And at this point, along with the number on the receipt, they ask for your namesurely the receipt number is enough! Being called by name is a slightly odd business… even hospitals mostly avoid calling names these days. It feels a little like going backwards.

When it is ready, your name is called out at volume^^

Lord Bergamot (750 yen)

Lord Bergamot (750 yen)

Apparently a Dimbula, well regarded for its fruitiness and minerality (the representative Ceylon tea, grown on the western slopes of Sri Lanka’s central highlands). Exactly as described — an Assam-ish tea wearing a very floral brightness. Lovely aroma, and delicious. I find tea easier to drink than coffee, and prefer it, so a place to drink tea slowly is welcome.

Jasmine Nectar (850 yen)

Jasmine Nectar (850 yen)

This one is apparently classed as a green tea.

Built on jasmine and silver tip, with cardamom, ginger, rose petals and the sweet scent of nectarine as accents. Rather spicy, by the sound of it^^ Though I did not drink this one, so I cannot say^^

Thank you for the tea!

This place opens from about 10:00 in the morning.

Since all these commercial towers went up around this part of Shibuya, everything seems to open at 11:30 or later, and there is nowhere much to rest in the morning. Hard to say whether that counts as more convenient or less. In that sense, this shop is something of a saviour! Just the name-calling — could we stop that?

May you meet something good to eat today too.

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
