A note on the words: a hot pressed sandwich, called hotto sando in Japan, is toasted with fillings clamped in a sandwich press. A croffle is a croissant pressed in a waffle iron until crisp. An oeuf a la coque is a French soft-boiled egg served upright in the shell in an egg cup — here it is written cotte, and the author says you may as well just call it a boiled egg. Nama shokupan refers to exceptionally soft, sweet Japanese milk bread made with extra cream or butter.

JAIME on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.
Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. There is a place that had really caught my eye for a while now. It is a cafe-bar along the way walking from Hinokicho Park in Roppongi toward Akasaka, and on weekdays, but especially on weekends, there is a tremendous line of women queuing up! It makes you think, can people really wait in line this much? But everyone is doing their best waiting under the blazing midday sun, so it is quite impressive. I wonder if it is a spot that got popular on Instagram or something like that. So, making the most of being close by, I decided to go have breakfast in the morning and gave it a visit.

Sure enough, in the morning there are not that many people around.
Just a lady with a dog who looks like a madam, and a scattering of foreigners. Regulars, I am sure.
Bacon and cheese hot pressed sandwich — 900 yen
Italian tuna mayo hot pressed sandwich — 900 yen
Morning croffle plate — 900 yen

It comes with coffee and an egg “oeuf a la cotte” (just call it a boiled egg!) for 900 yen.
This time I chose the Italian tuna mayo hot pressed sandwich.
Now, inside the shop the terrace is open, so the breeze blows through and it feels great.
The bossa nova playing in the cafe has a nice stylish vibe too. In a place like this, rather than fiddling with your phone, reading a book or something would look quite classy, wouldn’t it? You do see people like that sometimes. Or maybe bringing in a Mac and getting a little work done would fit right in too.

So stylish!
A boiled egg in its shell served in an egg cup — you hardly ever see that, ha.
Taking a bite of the hot pressed sandwich, it is delicious.
The bread is crisp and chewy. While it is thin, it has a solid presence, so maybe it is nama shokupan, an exceptionally soft Japanese milk bread.
The filling is generously packed, and though it says tuna mayo, with the tomato sauce, cheese, and spices, rather than Italian tuna mayo it has more of a pizza-like flavor. This might be really good.
The boiled egg is soft-boiled and runny. Eating it with salt and pepper is delicious.
Finishing the meal, a relaxing moment with coffee.
Being a cafe, the coffee is delicious too.
Everything is stylish, so I feel like I understand why it is so popular.
However, when it comes to standing in such a crazy, crowded line… I would hesitate a bit, but if you go first thing in the morning it is very uncrowded, so morning is definitely recommended! Morning. If it is an uncrowded morning, you can have a pleasant breakfast experience, so it might be well worth recommending.

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
