Grand Lux Cafe, Las Vegas: Everything Arrives Huge

A note on the words: meshi simply means a meal, which is where this blog gets its name. Scampi, on an American menu, means shrimp cooked in garlic and butter, and cedar plank means the fish is cooked on a slab of cedar so it takes on the smoke. The Las Vegas Strip is the stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard the big hotels stand on. Prices are in US dollars.

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. So, tonight: the last dinner in America! I decided to eat at “Grand Lux Cafe,” a place inside the famous hotel “The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino.” I had not booked anything in particular; we were drifting along, the place looked good, so in we went — and it was quiet, lucky us! Getting into restaurants is comfortably possible again now ^^

Grand Lux Cafe

There was a lot to choose from, but we settled on ordering a salad to share and then taking one dish each.

A la carte

First, beer! The price was not written down, so I asked what an IPA costs: ten dollars each.

I am used to it by now ^^

Atomic Duck IPA ($10)

Atomic Duck IPA ($10)

Grand Cobb Salad ($20.95)

And so, the salad, ordered with the announcement that we would be sharing it.

Grand Cobb Salad ($20.95)

Huh, ha. It is big. An enormous amount of salad, piled onto a plate that runs about from your elbow to your hand.
This is a size you cannot finish if you order it casually and do not share. Since arriving over here the prices had been high, so I had stopped paying attention, but this place really is the big-portion kind! The salad tastes spot on. Cobb salad is good.

Sunday Night Pasta ($25.95)

And from here on, everything that came out was of the mega-portion class, ha.

Sunday Night Pasta ($25.95)

Pasta in tomato sauce. The plate is the same one as the salad, ha.
The volume looks like a good four portions, ha. The tomato sauce is very rich and good. Under that sauce is pasta packed in tight. Good, but big.

Shrimp Scampi ($28.50)

Shrimp Scampi ($28.50)

Hm, I had thought it was shrimp only, and there is pasta right in the middle, ha.
No, surely not! I thought, and looked at the menu, and there in the description were the words “with Pasta.” I had missed it, ha.

The Sunday Night Pasta was already an enormous amount, and now more pasta had turned up. This one looks like two or three portions.
The flavor is a white sauce with a good tang of acidity, and the shrimp are rich and large, with real substance to them — delicious!

Cedar Plank BBQ Salmon ($28.95)

Cedar Plank BBQ Salmon ($28.95)

Salmon done BBQ style. Around this one too, mashed potato and corn piled on for all they are worth.
In calories it may not be so different from the pasta, ha. It looks handsome, and it is good.

Salmon Three Ways ($28.95)

And then, the salmon in three preparations.

Salmon Three Ways ($28.95)

Three does feel like a lot, but at last something of normal size had arrived. It was delicious!

Thank you for the meal!

It was a great deal of food, so we shared it around, ordered more beer and treated the rest as something to drink over, and that was the end of it! Well, it came to about two hundred dollars in all. Split between us that is not so much, and every dish was outstandingly good, so it made for a dinner with a high level of satisfaction. You could even say it was the best value of the whole trip! I recommend it enormously, so if you find yourself near “The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino,” do drop in!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
