A note on the words: yakiniku is Japanese-Korean grilled meat you cook yourself at the table, and horumon means the offal cuts. Sumibiyaki means grilled over charcoal, and hanare in a shop name is the annex, a second branch a little away from the first. Yukhoe is raw beef dressed in a sweet soy sauce with an egg yolk on top; serving raw beef in Japan requires a specific license from the ward health authority, which this shop holds. Kalbi is short rib and harami is the skirt cut. Kimchi here is served asazuke, pickled only lightly, and reimen is the chilled noodle dish Japanese yakiniku shops finish on. Nomihodai means all-you-can-drink for a fixed time. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. This time, yakiniku! Sumibiyaki Horumon Guu, Ikebukuro Hanare, in Ikebukuro. Hanare means the annex, and true to the name it is a little away from the station front (not that far, mind). Apparently it is licensed by the health authority to handle raw wagyu, and the promise of fresh offal delivered daily and grilled over charcoal is something to look forward to. Inside there are tables and a counter, and it is busy with customers!

Anyway, seated, and the course begins!
Raw beef sashimi plus all eleven selected cuts [the beef sashimi course: 10 plates, 15 items, with 2.5 hours of all-you-can-drink] 10 plates, 7,900 yen
That price with two and a half hours of all-you-can-drink! Very good. Ten plates is quite substantial.
A lemon sour to start!

Being lightly pickled kimchi, the napa cabbage is crisp and good! The chili heat is kept down. Delicious, certainly.

Raw beef yukhoe! Being raw, they ask you to eat it promptly.
Knowing they are licensed to handle raw meat is reassuring! The savor and sweetness of the beef are amplified by the sauce, and the egg wraps it all in something mellow.
Mm — good!

This one is one of the offal cuts, I think? Good as well!

Salt-seasoned. A comforting sort of flavor.

Grilling time!
After this the miso horumon and the salt horumon arrived as well! I forgot to photograph them, but they were good^^

Reimen at the end!
Completely full! Thoroughly satisfied!
So — hugely substantial, with two and a half hours of all-you-can-drink, and it comes in under 8,000 yen. That is cheap! The staff explained things carefully, including how to grill, and drink orders went through smoothly, so the shop left a very good impression! Since it is licensed to serve raw beef, I thought it perfect for eating some yakiniku while drinking without ceremony!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
