A note on the words: a gourmet burger, in Japanese usage, means a thick hand-formed patty in a bakery bun made to order, as opposed to a fast-food one. Nakamoto, next door, is Moko Tanmen Nakamoto, the ramen chain known for punishing levels of chili. A highball is whisky and soda. Kami-Itabashi is a quiet station on the Tobu Tojo line in northwest Tokyo. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Book a table at Hungry Heaven, Kami-Itabashi on AutoReserve (English)
Right, this is Hangover Meshi. Hungry Heaven is a burger shop whose Kojimachi branch I went to a long time ago. I remember eating a very promising-sounding mushroom burger with Gorgonzola back then, and since there appears to be one right by Kami-Itabashi Station, where I have been turning up a lot lately, off I went.

Looking at the map and wondering where it was — well, would you believe it lol
Right next door to Nakamoto. Nakamoto looms so large that I had never noticed it at all^^
It was lunchtime, so there were a few customers in already. The room has a really pleasant feel to it!

Mushroom burger with Gorgonzola: 1,300 yen
Hungry Heaven burger: 1,080 yen

There is an enormous menu.
Mm, hard to choose. Last time I had the mushroom sort, so this time I went for the standard line, the Hungry Heaven burger family, and chose the bacon and cheese.
You order from the web, and choosing a set is quietly confusing — it takes some getting used to lol
You can add drinks and sides, but there are a good many restrictions and it is hard work lol
Enough to make you think: never mind the saving, I shall order everything separately lol
The only drink that could be added to a set was beer, so I gave up on the set and ordered a highball!

And here is the Hungry Heaven bacon and cheese burger.

I had wanted the tomato salad as the set side, but the highball could not be built into a set, so I ordered it separately lol
As ever, a remarkably good-looking burger! The lettuce is crisp, and on top of it sit a properly meaty patty, a generous amount of cheese, and bacon. The bun is thick and slightly dark, which is apparently because it is brushed with caramel before baking. You taste sweetness and a toasted quality, and it goes superbly with what is inside. It stands up perfectly well to a very juicy patty. The “Heaven sauce” inside is a slightly sweet house sauce in which you can feel the fibers of the onion. Good.

And this one is the egg and cheese as a set, with fries and a beer.
Kami-Itabashi Station has Nakamoto, the famous ramen shop, and right beside it a famous burger place in Hungry Heaven — the standard here is remarkably high! Having a shop right by the station that you can drop into as casually as a chain burger joint whenever you fancy a gourmet burger is a fine thing! There is a huge menu, so I should like to work through it bit by bit!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
