A note on the words: a pizzeria romana serves the Roman style of pizza, rolled thin and baked crisp, as opposed to the softer Neapolitan kind. Cinque formaggi means five cheeses. Inca no Mezame is a Japanese potato variety with deep yellow flesh. Azabu-Juban is a well-off neighborhood in central Tokyo with an old shopping street running through it. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Pizzeria Romana Gianicolo on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.
Hey, this is Hangover Meshi. Lunch in Azabu-Juban! I wandered around wondering if anywhere had a table free. A pizzeria caught my eye that I had a vague memory of visiting long ago — though what I remember eating there was a lemon pasta… Well, never mind, let’s go in! So in I went.

Lunch set: 1,300 yen
Select lunch set: 1,900 to 2,400 yen
The lunch set has a fixed menu, though you can choose pizza or pasta.
The select lunch set differs in that the price changes depending on which pizza or pasta you pick, and it comes with an Inca no Mezame potato appetizer.
And then the staff recommended sharing SO hard lol
Like, wait, what? I thought — they were really pushing it. I figured everyone should just order what they wanted, but right at the end they let slip the real reason: the pizzas can only be baked one at a time, so if you don’t share, you’ll be waiting a while.
Ah, I see! If they’d said that up front it would have made a lot more sense lol
Well, we agreed that whoever ordered the same thing would split whichever one arrived first.
So, figuring we needed something appetizer-like to start, we ordered a salad.

The dressing has a balsamic flavor. This salad is delicious!
We munched away on it while waiting for the pizza to come out of the oven.

The dish that comes with the set — just a small portion lol
Inca no Mezame is a potato with a very strong sweetness. Delicious.

Apparently it’s Italian chili pepper. You’re invited to sprinkle it over the pizza to taste.

And here is the Cinque Formaggi pizza!!!
So loaded with cheese and it looks amazing! The cheeses used are apparently gorgonzola, taleggio, ricotta, grana padano and smoked mozzarella, and the moment I took a bite, the aroma of gorgonzola bloomed through my mouth, layered with all this complex cheesy richness — incredibly good. I bet this would be great with honey drizzled on top, too.
The chili pepper from earlier goes well with it too — delicious.

They gave us some fava beans on the house^^

And to finish, I had an iced coffee.
The pizza was really delicious!! The crust is thin, but it’s a fairly large pizza with plenty of substance. The pasta looked good too, but this is a pizzeria after all… Once you hear “wood-fired pizza,” that’s what you end up wanting to order! Ordering a bunch of different pizzas with close friends and sharing them around is definitely a good way to go, but honestly, that depends a lot on how close you actually are with the people you’re with, so I’d rather they didn’t push it so hard lol
Pizzeria Romana Gianicolo (pizza / Azabu-Juban Station, Akabanebashi Station, Roppongi Station)
Tabelog lunch rating ★★★☆☆ 3.4
I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
