A note on the words: Azabu-Juban is a well-off neighborhood in central Tokyo with an old shopping street running through it. Karaage is the Japanese way of frying chicken — marinated in soy and ginger, coated in potato starch, and fried until the crust is thin and dry. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. This time, talking about having a light one somewhere, we decided to try an American-diner-style place in Azabu-Juban! The shop is called The BRICKs DINER. Inside — is there an American diner atmosphere? Perhaps lol There is some fairly glittery decor and the whole thing is a busy, curious sort of space!
Plenty of American-feeling things on the menu, which looked fun!
We decided to work through the a la carte, ordering whatever we felt like.
First, in keeping with the theme^^ we started with Budweiser!
Garlic shrimp! Reasonably large shrimp stir-fried with garlic.
A junk-food sort of flavor, perfect as a beer snack. A quick squeeze of lemon and in we go!
Mini pizza! Nice to see vegetables on it too! Salami, cheese and tomato sauce.
The base is crisp and crunchy. It is called mini, but eaten by one person it is quite a lot lol
Sausage and chili sauce inside a crisply toasted bun. Ketchup and mustard, generously.
Plenty of fries, and chunky pickles — cornichons, are they? Nice. Very American lol One bite and the toasty bun and the sausage go together beautifully. The slightly generous helping of ketchup and mustard is very good. The chili sauce is a superb match! Delicious.
Fried chicken with plenty of spice on it. Spiced karaage might be closer to the truth lol
Extremely good. Fried chicken is fried chicken, after all lol The beer goes down fast.
The chili sauce on that hot dog was so good that I ended up ordering these too!
Cheese on them as well, and delicious! An enormous number of calories, but satisfying!
The power went out a few times while we were there (the breaker had tripped lol), but the American atmosphere came through nicely. All the beer is in bottles, which I think does a great deal for the American diner feel. Rather than settling in for hours, it might be very useful for a quick drink! It is a small place, so when it fills up there is more waiting, but that is simply how it goes.
