Doutor, Akasaka: A 750-Yen Morning of Milano Sando A and Black Coffee

A note on the words: Milano Sando is the long-running line of filled sandwiches at the Japanese coffee chain Doutor, served on lightly warmed bread. Kissaten refers to a traditional Japanese coffee shop or cafe.

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. I had something to take care of early in the morning in Akasaka-Mitsuke, and while wandering around wondering whether to grab breakfast somewhere for a change, I spotted Doutor. I feel like I used to go quite often back in the day, but lately I hardly ever drop in. Might as well have a Milano Sando for once, I thought, and headed inside. With large windows facing Aoyama-dori, the shop feels bright and open, which is very pleasant.

Wondering which one to get, I chose the most standard and affordable Milano Sando A.
Along with a medium hot coffee. The staff asked to confirm, “The one without cheese, right?” which made me wonder if most people order the cheese-in version.

Milano Sando A + coffee

So I picked up just the coffee and waited for a moment, as they said they would call my number once the Milano Sando was ready.
Before long my number was called and I went up to fetch it.

Come to think of it, 750 yen for this set is somewhat steep, ha.
The Milano Sando features slightly warm bread generously packed with fillings, and it is tasty. It tasted just the way I remembered. I also feel like it might indeed be tastier with cheese. How many years has it been? The long-overdue Milano Sando had a somewhat nostalgic flavor. It is quite a substantial portion. I felt eating too much first thing in the morning wouldn’t be ideal, so I ate only half the bread and enjoyed the rest of my coffee. Coffee from a dedicated coffee shop really is good.
I would have been happier if it were a little cheaper, but I suppose you are paying for the seat as well.

Thank you for the meal!

Enjoying coffee and a Milano Sando in peace while looking outside in the morning. An occasional morning like this isn’t bad at all! Since I hardly ever visit a kissaten (Japanese coffee shop) these days, it felt quite refreshing! To feel this way at Doutor, ha — it was a pleasant experience.

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
