A note on the words: a biscuit, in the American sense, is a soft unsweetened quick bread, split and filled rather than eaten as a cookie. Hash browns are grated potato fried until crisp, shaped flat in some places and in small rounds in others. The Las Vegas Strip is the stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard the big hotels stand on. Hangover Meshi is the name of this blog, and meshi means a meal.

Johnny Rockets Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on Tabelog (in Japanese) — Tabelog has no English pages for restaurants outside Japan, so this listing is in Japanese. Opening hours and payment details are kept up to date there, not here.
Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. This time I decided to have breakfast at “Johnny Rockets Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino,” which sits near the conference center of the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas. They are open from early in the morning, which is a real help! Except that the conference that was the whole point of this trip had brought in so many people that the place was packed.

I have been to a fair number of places to eat by now, so at least ordering in English goes smoothly these days. ^^

This is a hamburger shop, but in the morning it is muffins, ha. Same as McDonald’s. Why is that, I wonder? Surely there are people who want a burger first thing. And over in the part marked FULL BREAKFAST is the loaded, unmistakably American sort of breakfast, ha. Splendid — you have to eat this kind of thing while you are here! That said,
the American Breakfast is a lot. ^^;
An enormous amount, and the calorie count looks alarming, ha. I really did not think I could finish it, so I went with Johnny’s Breakfast.
Water, believe it or not, costs something like $4.99. Bottled Water, that is — why do I have to pay 700 yen to drink water out of a plastic bottle, ha.

The woman in line ahead of me asked the staff for ketchup, and they took a whole fistful and handed it over. She was rather stuck with the pile of it, so I got a few off her, ha. Then I picked up some mustard and sat down.

What a quantity, ha. There is no finishing this first thing in the morning, so I shared it with the person I came with. Those round little fried pieces are hash browns. The Japanese ones — the McDonald’s ones, rather — are flat, but the round sort are good too. The egg is a dense, tightly packed omelet, ha. That on its own is fairly heavy going.
And then the meat that goes inside the muffin. I think you are probably meant to put it in the biscuit at the front.
With ketchup and mustard on it, it was rather good.
So: eat this every morning and of course you would end up big-sized! An obvious thought, but a small culture shock all the same, and between the two of us we cleared the lot. The taste was spot on, so I came away satisfied. Also, America has far too few soft drinks without sugar in them, which is hard going, ha. Even the Iced Tea was sweet. I want some tea!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
