A note on the words: the Las Vegas Strip is the stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard the big casino hotels stand on, and Planet Hollywood is one of them. A rib-eye is the steak cut from the fatty middle of the rib section, and a New York strip the leaner cut from the short loin; “black and blue” is the steakhouse term for a piece charred hard on the outside and left rare within, and “bleu” is the French spelling of blue, used in English for blue cheese as well. Back ribs are the pork ribs taken from along the top of the ribcage, and Tony Roma’s is a chain of rib restaurants. Prices are in US dollars.

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. This time I decided to eat at “Cafe Hollywood,” which sits at the back of the casino floor of the Las Vegas hotel “Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.” I had vaguely been after an American diner sort of feeling, so the mood may have been just right. When it comes to it, you want steak, do you not! Steak!

Since I had no idea how large the portions would be, we decided to order at random and share as we went.
First to arrive was the rib-eye steak.
It comes with fries and a sauté of green beans and herbs, and in fact this green bean sauté has garlic coming through and is good ha
The steak is a solid piece of meat as well. Honestly, it is a little tough ha Still, without eating a tough steak like this you do not really feel you have come to America. I shall have to train my jaw.
BBQ ribs! The sweet sauce and the tender back ribs go together perfectly. Or rather, they are seriously good.
In Japan you can eat this sort of thing if you go to Tony Roma’s and the like. This is another very American dish. Good.
This one is steak as well. I had it done medium rare, and this is the thicker, meatier of the two. It is still tough, as ever, but if you cut it up small with the knife it may not bother you much. This one seemed to me to have more of the flavor of the beef itself, and to be the better for it. And, as ever, this green bean sauté is good ha
A sandwich. What, not a burger? ha
In American terms, perhaps once there is no beef in it, it becomes a sandwich.
Maybe there is not really that much of a distinction ha
So, I managed to eat the American steak I had been after. In Las Vegas, places inside the casinos stay open fairly late, so you may not have much trouble finding a meal. Perhaps it is set up so that you can spend your casino winnings straight away ha Splendid. It was good, the quantity satisfied, and it made a fine memory.
