Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. Right — arrived safely in Las Vegas, and dinner on day one! The hotel I stayed at this time was called New York-New York, a hotel built to look like the streets of New York, complete with a Statue of Liberty, very American ^^ This hotel has a strip of restaurants behind the casino, and some of them apparently let you eat and drink all night, so the feeling is that food will not be a problem. Though surely they close in the small hours? Anyway, what I picked for dinner this time was “Gonzalez y Gonzalez”! A Mexican-looking place.
I had been getting it wrong the whole time — I thought it was Guzman y Gomez, the one in Aoyama and elsewhere!
Also Mexican, or rather a taco shop, as I recall. Look closely and the name is slightly different lol
Not Guzman y Gomez but, this time, Gonzalez y Gonzalez.
This place is a proper Mexican restaurant too, with
tacos, burritos, soups, salads, a vegetarian menu and the house specials (meat and so on)
— plenty to choose from and it all looks good! For now I settled on the style of naming whatever I felt like eating and working through it.
It is still day one, so no English comes out at all lol
A fruity beer with an orange on it! Plus a few snacks, chosen roughly.
Tortilla chips, I suppose they are called! Crunching through them, they are low in salt and easy to eat. I could not tell whether the chips themselves were freshly made or simply warmed, but the slight warmth is a nice touch.
The triple dip that comes with it is bean dip, green chile sour cream, and chili con queso ^^
Queso means cheese, does it not. This chili con queso in the middle, with its bit of heat, was extremely good.
And then another dip sauce, which I think I must have added.
Salsa, perhaps. It was extremely good, but what sauce was this, I wonder lol
A ribeye steak marinated with cilantro and green chile, seared in a pan and served with grilled bell peppers, onions and fries, piled boldly onto a skillet. This is extremely good! Above all, perhaps because the meat is marinated, it is unbelievably tender. It is a little spicy, and the flavor of the green chile with the tomato and the onions and peppers laid underneath go together beautifully. This was the right choice.
And the other drink I ordered, which I did not really understand, turned out to be an apple cider sort of drink lol
I had thought it was a beer, but it was sweet and good in its own way.
So: chips with salsa and dips, the classic Mexican thing, plus a skillet ribeye — a slightly unusual, home-country-feeling Mexican meal that I feel I thoroughly enjoyed! It is nice to be able to eat something like this without leaving the hotel! At the Bellagio last time, all the restaurants inside were quite expensive, so I could not go casually! In that sense this time was just right.
