A note on the words: tanuki soba is soba in hot dashi topped with tenkasu, the crisp fried batter bits left over from making tempura. Kakiage is a fritter of shredded vegetables and sometimes seafood, fried in one clump. Stand-up soba shops are the cheap, fast counters found by stations all over Tokyo, where you buy a ticket and eat in a few minutes.

Komoro Soba Akasaka on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.
Right, this is Hangover Meshi. A morning outing for the first time in a while. I had been aware for ages that a “Komoro Soba” had opened, but somehow never went. It opened in June of 2024, so that is about a year ago already ^^. Even so, the inside still counts as new. Being clean and easy to walk into probably helps. More breakfast options around Akasaka are always welcome.

Well, it is tanuki soba as always, but it was a little cold that day, so instead of the cold tanuki I went for the hot one ^^
And on top of that, I got curious and added a single shrimp tempura ^^

So, after a short wait, here it is.
With the shrimp tempura in there it feels a bit lavish, ha.
How to put it — it is perhaps closer to “shrimp tempura soba with a kakiage added” than the other way round.
The soba is properly good. And the hot dashi gives you the sense of it running warm right through the body, ha. Really rather soothing.
Being able to eat hot tanuki soba for the price of a single coin on a cold day — Japan is a fine place!
So, morning soba this time! There really are more places to get breakfast around Akasaka now. Having choices when you feel like eating something in the morning is a good thing. I shall pop in again casually. It was delicious!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
