A note on the words: seolleongtang is a Korean soup boiled for hours from beef bones until it turns milky white, served almost unseasoned so that you salt it at the table to taste. The small dishes that arrive with it, kimchi among them, are banchan, and they come as a matter of course. Suyuk is beef simmered and sliced; jeon is the savory pancake Japan calls chijimi; japchae is glass noodles stir-fried with vegetables. Nori is dried seaweed. Bekkan means the annex, a second building a few doors from the main shop. Akasaka is a business and nightlife district near the government offices. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. Hot! Sweltering! Wondering what to do about lunch, I went to a ramen shop that opened recently and found it closed lol Well then, is there anywhere else, I thought, and while drifting about I spotted Ichiryu! I have been drinking a good deal lately, so a gentle seolleongtang might be just the thing to put me right^^ In I went, for the first time in ages.
The main shop is on the fourth floor, or something like that, is it not?
The ground floor is easier to walk into lol Going up is such a bother^^
Seolleongtang: 1,950 yen
Suyuk: 2,750 yen
Jeon: 2,500 yen
Japchae: 2,500 yen
Grilled nori: 850 yen
Well, almost everyone who comes here is having the seolleongtang, presumably.
Grilled nori at 850 yen lol That does rather catch the eye.
The side dishes arrive! These are the main event, really. They will happily oblige if you ask for a little more kimchi^^
There is a great deal of it, which is a pleasure in itself^^
And with this many side dishes in front of you… obviously! A beer, surely^^
And then the seolleongtang arrives.
Almost no salt in it^^ A gentle broth. The beef stock soaks right through you.
There is salt on the table, so adding a little under one percent by weight makes it taste right^^
As ever, a very clean and delicious seolleongtang.
It is probably one of the two healthiest lunches in Akasaka^^
Seolleongtang after all this time — excellent! They are open 24 hours, after all. Though I have never actually come here after drinking lol The reassurance of a place that is always open is a fine thing too. If it comes to mind, why not head to Akasaka for a gentle bowl of seolleongtang^^
