A note on the words: yakiniku is Japanese-style grilled meat, cooked by you at the table. Wagyu is Japanese beef and kuroge wagyu is the black-haired breed; karubi is short rib, harami is skirt, and shintama is a cut from the round. Tare is the sweet soy dipping sauce, as against plain salt. Yukhoe is finely cut raw beef, choregi is a Korean-style leaf salad, kimchi is salted fermented vegetables (hakusai is Chinese cabbage, umeboshi a salted plum), naengmyeon is chilled Korean noodles, and bibimbap is rice with toppings mixed in, here served in a hot stone bowl. Sukiyaki is beef cooked in sweet soy and eaten dipped in raw egg yolk. Nori is dried seaweed. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Roppongi Yakiniku Kintan on AutoReserve (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.
I want to eat something good today too. This is Hangover Meshi. This time I went to Kintan in Roppongi for the first time in ages. As stylish as ever. I had not been to the Roppongi Kintan in so long that I could not even remember where it was. Once someone tells you, you think, ah yes, of course, Hinazushi used to be here. The exterior looks as good as ever.

This time they gave us the private room on the right as you come in. Very kind of them.
Roppongi KINTAN Party Course with free-flow drinks, 8,800 yen
Roppongi Welcome Course, 6,980 yen
Casual Course, 7,980 yen
Rich Course, 10,500 yen
There are a great many courses on the menu, so choosing is hard work.
Each of them differs slightly in what it includes. What is welcome, though, is that with almost any of them you can add free-flow drinks for another 2,000 yen. For anyone who likes a drink, a place where you can drink freely without worrying about the bill is obviously best.
The first drink is of course beer.

Tokyo Craft beer.

From the left: hakusai kimchi, cream cheese kimchi, umeboshi kimchi.
Yes, that combination is Kintan, is it not. It is coming back to me.

Beautifully arranged, and it looks lovely.
Eating it, the texture melts away and it is very good indeed. Fine fat of the sort that melts at body temperature.

An assortment of the salt-seasoned meats, tongue and so on.

Kuroge wagyu prime karubi, kuroge wagyu shintama, and PRIME harami, I think?
All of them very tender and clearly good meat. Kintan is dependable.

And this is the mini cheeseburger.
I am not sure I have ever eaten this one at Kintan. It is a one-bite burger, and biting in you get a lovely truffle aroma. The cheese is rich and holds its own against a firm wagyu patty. The Korean nori in it is a unique touch too.

Last is wagyu sirloin grilled sukiyaki style. A member of staff grills this one for you.
Rice, a rich egg yolk and soft, melting meat together, and it is good.
Wherever you go, this tends to be the last meat of the evening. Which must mean it really is that good.

At the end they mixed the stone-bowl bibimbap neatly and served it out into individual dishes for each of us.
Which does mean four carbohydrates in a row at the finish. Naturally you end up full. Thoroughly satisfied.

Well, with free-flow drinks included, plenty drunk and plenty eaten, and thoroughly satisfied. Everything on the Kintan menu is good, so the place is dependable. It is stylish and clean, and if you take one of the courses with free-flow drinks it is quite good value too. Going once in a while makes what is good about Kintan shine. A fine place.

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
