Drinks Only at Last Order: A Glass of Bone-Dry Sake at Luv.Fish? Tokyo in Marunouchi

A note on the words: kappo is a traditional style of Japanese restaurant where the chef prepares seasonal dishes in front of diners at a counter. Otoshi is the small snack served to every guest at many Japanese bars, usually as part of a table charge. Dashi is the savory stock at the heart of Japanese cooking. Sashimi is thinly sliced raw fish. The “+14” on a sake label is its sake meter value; the higher the number, the drier the sake tends to be.

Luv.Fish? Tokyo on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.

To all the drinkers out there, thanks for waiting! It’s Hangover Meshi time!

I had assumed there were plenty of places around Tokyo Station open quite late, so I let my guard down, ha. Thinking, ‘There are places open pretty late in the Shin-Marunouchi Building, right?’ I headed over just before 22:00, but it was already right at last order (the final call for orders), ha. The spot that kindly welcomed me in, saying, ‘It will be drinks only, is that OK?’ was Luv.Fish? Tokyo on 7F of the Shin-Marunouchi Building.

Luv.Fish? Tokyo

Apparently, this is the first Tokyo location of a new concept from Mouri, a kappo restaurant in the Fukushima area of Osaka. Located in a prime spot—Marunouchi House on 7F of the Shin-Marunouchi Building, a 1-minute walk from Tokyo Station’s Marunouchi Central Exit and directly connected to the Marunouchi Line—it is a modern seafood dining bar serving fresh fish from Toyosu and shipped directly from producers! I did not get to eat any of it this time, but so this is a place where fish is the star, huh. I would have loved to have that combination of sashimi and sake!

Inside, the atmosphere is very stylish and has a really nice feel.

Thoroughly satisfied with sake alone

There is a good variety of sake, but choosing which one to drink is important, ha. I went with Mii no Kotobuki!

Ta-da! A +14, extra dry!

The aroma is gentle, and the mouthfeel is surprisingly light. Almost no sweetness shows its face, and when you take a sip, it kind of feels like a tingling acidity running down the middle of the tongue? Because it is properly dry, it drinks cleanly, which is great! They say it goes well with dashi and fish, so isn’t it a perfect match for this place!

Even though I only ordered drinks, to my surprise they still gave me the otoshi snack sticks! Much appreciated!!

Thank you for the meal!

So in the end, I really just had one glass of sake and an additional highball before heading home, but being able to chat leisurely for about 30 min left me thoroughly satisfied. Since they have fish dishes, next time I would like to come at an hour when I can make this my first stop and pair seasonal fish with sake—I would love to do that!

Here is hoping to encounter more delicious food today as well!

Tabelog dinner rating ★★★☆☆ 3.0

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
