Shichikosan, Kamiitabashi: Sheltering From the Rain, and Wagyu With No Cover Charge

A note on the words: yakiniku is Japanese-style grilled meat cooked at your own table; kuroge wagyu is Japanese Black beef. Karubi is marbled short rib, harami the outside skirt, misuji the prized top-blade cut, mino a cut of tripe, and tare the dipping sauce. An otoshi is the compulsory small dish most izakaya charge for with your seat — this shop does not have one. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Kuroge Wagyu Yakiniku Shichikosan, Kamiitabashi station-front branch

Shichikosan, Kamiitabashi on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.

Drinkers, thank you for waiting. It is Hangover Meshi time.

This time, an infiltration of “Kuroge Wagyu Yakiniku Shichikosan”, right in front of Kamiitabashi Station. I had been wandering around the area when the rain came down, and decided that sheltering from it and having yakiniku for dinner amounted to the same thing.

“All that matters is that the wagyu is good and the wallet survives” — well said!

It was almost exactly opening time (around 17:00), so we were the very first in!

Ohhhh!

So much on the menu, and a huge range of kuroge wagyu and rare cuts! Is this a winner?!

Supreme fillet, prime salted tongue, prime loin, misuji!!!

Now — “glad we did not get too wet” — a beer!

Supreme fillet, prime salted tongue, prime loin, misuji!!!
Good. Too good.

Before we grill anything, let us survey the stage.

Two tare sauces and lemon juice

And let us have the diagram ready, so we know which cut is which as we eat!

Right — preparations complete! Let us grill!

Prime salted tongue (1,390 yen)

Prime salted tongue (1,390 yen)

First, prime salted tongue. When you arrive hungry there is an urge to eat something good straight away, so prime tongue it is. The extra-prime thick-cut tongue is a bit much as an opener — the balance is tricky. Bite in and there is a crisp snap, then juicy savour spreading out. The royal road of tongue. Delicious.

Prime loin (1,190 yen), select harami (1,290 yen), extra-prime karubi (1,390 yen)

Prime loin (1,190 yen), select harami (1,290 yen), extra-prime karubi (1,390 yen)

“Prime loin” is a superior part of the loin cut thick, with a fine balance of lean and fat. Loin genuinely differs from shop to shop. This one has even marbling; grill it briefly, just searing the surface, and the fat melts instantly, savour of the lean and sweetness of the fat arriving together. It suits the tare too. Delicious!

Prime loin (1,190 yen), select harami (1,290 yen), extra-prime karubi (1,390 yen)

Next, the “select harami” — leaner, meatier in texture, and somehow it feels healthy. A great favourite! Grilled nicely, the juices seep out with every chew and the sheer strength of the meat comes straight at you. Tender and chewy at once — excellent!

“Extra-prime karubi” is the fattiest cut, marbled in a fine web; put it on the charcoal and the fat drips and hisses, and if you are careless it goes up in flames. Sear the surface crisp, then in it goes. Delicious. But it carries a lot of fat, so I do not need much of it. With rice I could eat it endlessly.

As it happens, loin then harami then karubi gives you a gradient of fat — lean, middle, rich — that you can feel as you eat! (I was not thinking about that when I ordered!)

Prime misuji (1,490 yen), supreme fillet (1,990 yen)

Prime misuji (1,490 yen), supreme fillet (1,990 yen)

There was room for a little more, so we ordered again.

“Prime misuji” is a well-known rare cut! Thanks to its fine web of marbling it comes out unbelievably tender even cut thick. Sear it briefly, keep it towards rare, and the fat melts the instant it enters your mouth! Delicious. 1,490 yen for this feels cheap!

“Supreme fillet” is one of Shichikosan’s signature dishes, the highest cut of wagyu. Again, sear the surface and leave the middle rare. Bite in and the fibres crumble softly, refined savour spreading out with not the slightest heaviness of fat. In central Tokyo this would surely cost 3,000 to 4,000 yen. Such is the power of buying a whole A4 carcass…!!!

Prime mino tripe (950 yen)

Prime mino tripe (950 yen)

Added my beloved prime mino tripe as well. Grill it from the scored side and the crosshatched edges stand up crisp — lovely. In the mouth: crunch, then snap, then a burst of juice. That brisk texture is irresistible, with no funk at all. Delicious!

Thank you for the meal!

This shop has no otoshi — no compulsory seating dish!

Wagyu this reasonable and no otoshi either: they are living out the line written by the entrance, “all that matters is that the wagyu is good and the wallet survives”! Is this not an excellent neighbourhood yakiniku house? And having it to ourselves right after opening — thoroughly comfortable!

Stepping outside in a fine mood, it was still raining, but I went home beaming.

May you meet something good to eat today too.

Tabelog dinner rating ★★★☆☆ 3.5

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
