GOSTOSO, Azabu-juban: 100 Minutes of Charcoal Churrasco

A note on the words: churrasco is the Brazilian way with meat — cuts threaded onto long skewers, grilled over charcoal and carved off at your table a slice at a time. Linguiça is the garlicky pork sausage of Portugal and Brazil. The cuts here go by their Japanese butchery names: hatsu is heart, shintama the ball-shaped muscle from the top of the round, ichibo the aitchbone cut at the top of the rump, and harami the diaphragm, sold in the United States as skirt steak. Kuroge wagyu means the Japanese Black, the breed behind most wagyu, and A5 is the top mark in Japan’s beef grading.

Hey, this is Hangover Meshi. Back again to “GOSTOSO,” the churrasco place in Azabu-juban. When you walk past you can see a fair number of empty seats inside, which I think makes it easy to go “well, here will do!” lol. This time too I went in, said I didn’t have a reservation, waited a while and was shown to a table. I did notice someone carrying meat down to the basement, so there may well be seating down there too.

Dishes to look for

100-minute charcoal churrasco course & 50 g of A5 kuroge wagyu ichibo rump per person: 6,292 yen

I was assuming I’d go for the same 100-minute churrasco course as last time, and then it turned out they’d added a new course that comes with 50 g of A5 kuroge wagyu ichibo rump per person. Having exactly the same thing as last time felt a bit much, so I went with the churrasco course that includes the ichibo rump.

The churrasco here is all-you-can-eat, or rather: they bring the cuts round to you one after another in order, and if that still isn’t enough you can ask for seconds of some of them. So there’s no need to keep declaring yes to this and no to that, lol. Basically everything comes one piece at a time, so just eat whatever they bring you, lol.

Right — once I had my first highball in hand, the all-you-can-drink and the churrasco were underway.

Rice, salad and the accompanying meat and sauces come out first, on large shared plates.
Everything served at this point is unlimited, so they’ll bring more if you ask. I think I asked for the salad about four times in the end, lol. The rice, on the other hand, will fill you up, so watch your pace and your portion!

Hatsu, and cheese bread

First up was hatsu. Along with a slightly heavy bread packed full of cheese inside.

I still haven’t gotten around to the bread, lol.

The meat is good, but honestly the raisins alongside it were the standout — big and plump and delicious ^^

Thank you for the meal!

So: once you’ve been through the whole run, seconds are out of the question, lol. I think you’ll end up seriously full. If you knew in advance what was coming, you could probably be more selective about what to take and what to pass on. Anyway, there’s all-you-can-drink too, and it’s a good place to get full cheaply!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
