A note on the words: yakitori is chicken grilled on skewers over charcoal. Otoshi is the small appetizer you are charged for on sitting down. Chawanmushi is a savory steamed egg custard. Bettei means annex, the second house of an established shop. Ebisu is a dining quarter one stop south of Shibuya. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. This time, up the hill from Ebisu Station toward Meguro. Partway along (it is a fair walk lol) is the yakitori shop “Kirin Bettei.” There is apparently a well-known shop called Kirin in front of Ebisu Station, and this is its bettei, its annex. It is on the fourth floor of a building! I had asked for a private room, and got the one closest to the entrance!
It was a fairly small space, and the chairs were small too, so the impression was rather cramped ^^
There are various courses, but this time the smallest, the 5,000-yen one.
I went in the spirit of adding more if it was not enough.

The member of staff who took our order had a very strong manner about them, which was rather funny lol

At good places you sometimes get a course where they just keep bringing yakitori endlessly, but at an ordinary yakitori shop a yakitori-only course is not really a thing anywhere, is it. It would be genuinely nice to be able to order that.

Momo, the thigh. Juicy, with quite a firm texture to the meat.
This was maru-hatsu, the whole heart, I think.
This is dakimi. Apparently it is breast meat, and it has quite a bit of chew and a firm texture.
There is a fair amount of it, and by this point I was filling up lol

It had felt like a small amount somehow, but I ended up quite full. A few people ordered extras, but I had had enough! Looking around, there were private rooms that seemed rather nice, so it seems we simply happened to land in a poor one, but I do wish we had had somewhere more relaxed lol And the staff member with the strong manner is funny, but I wonder? lol I feel it will not be for everyone.
