A note on the words: Edomae means Tokyo-style sushi, from the days when the fish came out of the bay in front of the city. Hokkigai is surf clam, akagai blood clam, and torigai cockle. Kani miso is the soft brown paste inside a crab, eaten on its own with a drink. Ikezukuri is the practice of slicing a fish that was alive moments before and serving it on its own frame. Shochu is a distilled spirit, here made from barley and cut with soda. Ebisu is a restaurant-dense neighborhood one stop south of Shibuya. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Edomae Bikkuri Sushi Ebisu on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.
Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. When the call goes up for one more place in Ebisu, there are plenty of shops open late! And when what you want among them is sushi and sashimi, the one I recommend is Edomae Bikkuri Sushi, Ebisu branch. My impression is that it stays open fairly late. And you can use it as a second-round place, with sashimi and drinks and no sushi at all, which is very good indeed. So off we went, and we walked straight in, which was splendid.

Well, being the second round, sushi felt like a bit much,
so we drank with sashimi and snacks as the main event.
We started with barley shochu and soda!
And the first snack was…!

Excellent! I love shellfish!!!
Hokkigai and akagai, torigai and scallop, and every one of them is what you would expect from a sushi shop. Each is fresh and glistening and delicious.
The drink and this sashimi alone work perfectly well as a snack!!
The sashimi is thoroughly good, but one more dish.

Kani miso! It is good, is it not. It even feels a little stronger in flavor than the version you get at an ordinary izakaya^^
Which means the shochu soda goes straight down! Delicious.

The conversation got going and we decided on one more, so we ordered the horse mackerel.
It is a live horse mackerel, so they take one that was swimming a moment ago and prepare it as ikezukuri.
The way it is still twitching is the proof of its freshness! One bite and the flesh is firm and springy and delicious.
I understand that freshness alone does not make everything good, but this is a fine way to eat horse mackerel^^
Being able to do this is exactly what a sushi shop is for. Good.
I only ordered about three snacks, yet I feel I got through five or six barley shochu sodas! Being able to sit somewhere settled, with sashimi and shochu, and talk at leisure — what could be better! When you want to eat properly in Ebisu, or when you are about to become a refugee with nowhere to go, Bikkuri Sushi comes recommended!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
