Khan Kebab Biryani: Nihari and Two Hours of Drinks

A note on the words: nihari is a slow-simmered curry from the Indian subcontinent, built on bone-in meat. Basmati is the long-grain rice served with it, and achar the pickled relish set alongside. Saag means a dish built on cooked greens, usually spinach. Naan is the flatbread baked against the wall of a tandoor oven. Two links in this article go to Japanese-only articles. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Khan Kebab Biryani

Khan Kebab Biryani on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.

Hey, this is Hangover Meshi. I’m back here after a while — “Khan Kebab Biryani,” the Indian curry restaurant above Hakuhinkan in Ginza. This place is really good. There used to be a shop in Roppongi called SAHIFA KEBAB BIRYANI (in Japanese), which has since closed, and their nihari curry was so good I used to go all the time. Then it turned out there’s a sister shop right here in Ginza! I went for nihari at lunch last time (in Japanese). This time it’s evening, and I’m eating my way through the menu with drinks included!

Khan Kebab Biryani

Busy in the evening too.

Menu highlights

14 items + 120-min all-you-can-drink course, 4,290 yen

Biryani and cheese naan all-you-can-eat + 120-min all-you-can-drink course, 4,750 yen

Spice-packed dishes + 120-min all-you-can-drink course, 5,485 yen

Honestly, with all-you-can-drink included, it’s just cheap!
It looked like there’d be plenty of food either way, so we went with the course that has the fewest dishes — the 14-item, 120-minute all-you-can-drink one — figuring we’d add more if we needed it!

Beer first! Beer!

And with that, the course begins.

Healthy garden salad

Healthy garden salad

Starting with salad! There’s something like achar mixed in, and the distinctive spice makes it good.

Fragrant Indian bean crackers (masala papad)

A crisp cracker.

From here on, they bring dishes out as each one is ready and set it down for us!

Indian-style tempura made with seasonal vegetables, Indian-style tempura eggplant, oven-baked cauliflower.
Kebabs, and swordfish fish tikka.

Tandoori chicken too! It already feels like enough food to fill you up on its own, but this is where it really picks up ^^

Hyderabadi-style chicken biryani, slow-cooked over low heat

Biryani!! The smell drifting off it is amazing!
One bite in and it’s really good. The basmati rice is light, which makes it easy to keep eating.
Loaded with spice and chicken flavor — irresistible.

Saag chicken curry & butter chicken curry

Saag chicken curry & butter chicken curry

And then two curries come out.
The first is saag chicken curry — a spinach curry.

Saag chicken curry & butter chicken curry

Butter chicken curry! A mellow, slightly sweet curry. It goes so well with naan.

Naan & paratha

Naan & paratha

And apparently the naan and paratha here are all-you-can-eat, lol.
There’s no way we can eat that much, lol lol lol. By the end, the sheer amount of carbs coming at us is almost too much.

Nihari (1,598 yen)

Nihari (1,598 yen)

We were already about full, but I left the rest of the curry and naan to the friends I’d come with
and ordered the nihari I’d loved so much before! It’s a curry made from bone-in lamb slow-simmered for a long time with plenty of spices, onion, and herbs — the kind of deep, building heat that has you sweating partway through the meal.

A spicy lamb curry with a properly sharp tang to it. Ridiculously good, lol lol lol
At lunch it seemed a bit thinner and soupier — maybe for dinner they cook off a little more liquid so it works better as a drinking snack? Either way, it’s delicious! The lamb is simmered meltingly tender, and that tang is what makes it addictive.

Thank you for the meal!

So, it was genuinely delicious, but my stomach felt like it was about to burst!
There’s a serious amount of food, it comes with all-you-can-drink, and even with an extra dish added, it still comes to under 5,000 yen a person! Curry good enough to laugh off rising prices. And this is Shimbashi — or really Ginza. Ridiculously good value and delicious, so I recommend it!!!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
