A note on the words: kaitenzushi is conveyor-belt sushi, where plates circle the counter and you also order from a screen; Kappa Sushi is one of the big national chains. Nigiri is a slice of topping pressed onto a finger of rice; gunkan is rice wrapped in a band of nori seaweed to hold something loose on top. Kazunoko is herring roe, ikura salmon roe, akagai the ark shell, tsubugai a whelk, harasu the fatty belly of the salmon. Shari is the vinegared rice itself. Kikanbou, mentioned in passing, is a Tokyo ramen shop the chain has collaborated with. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Kappa Sushi, Itabashi branch, on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.
I want to eat something good today as well. This is Hangover Meshi. Kappa, kappa, Kappa Sushi. Here I am again. It is simply the right thing when the urge to eat out strikes. Easy to do alone, not too greasy, you eat what you feel like, you can even come when you do not particularly want sushi, and it sits on a main road. So: another review of another visit. I always go at lunchtime and it is usually quiet — I have never had to wait. Is the Itabashi branch a well-kept secret?
Picking off whatever I fancy again.
Last time I ate an enormous amount, so today I kept an eye on my stomach and behaved.
The Kikanbou one I had last time, so I passed.

The ordinary soy ramen. This is the good one. It may honestly be that the ordinary soy ramen is the best of them — the flavor is that dependable. Ordering ramen as, what, the soup course? Thoroughly recommended.

Herring roe, obviously. Fish roe, fish roe.

Grilled belly, salmon, and fatty salmon. Is 330 yen not cheap for that?

As someone who loves shellfish I cannot leave out the ark shell. Ordering nothing but your own favorites with no thought for balance does rather reveal your character. A conveyor-belt sushi order list might be an embarrassing document.

That firm, crunchy bite is irresistible. Forget the rice — I would like ten slices of the topping alone.

Surely 130 yen is too cheap. The fried things here taste freshly fried, which is why they are good.

Ikura, ikura. You always want at least one.

Between squid and octopus, octopus is the dearer. But I do like octopus.

This was out by the till and I wanted it. Slightly hot, clean-tasting, good.

What is going on with 110 yen for this? I nearly forgot, but one must eat the tuna.

Oysters to finish. I am not so fond of raw ones, but steamed oysters are good.
So: I ate what I wanted as the desire took me, and even then the bill was nothing at all. They talk of prices rising, and shops like this are a genuine help. The happiness of eating sushi that is cheap and good. It is such an easy place to get to that I shall no doubt keep dropping in. I shall go again when the seasonal menu changes.

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
