Sushiro, Takadanobaba: Cheap Sushi and Cheaper Drinks

A note on the words: kaiten sushi is conveyor belt sushi, the cheap and cheerful end of the sushi world. Shari is the vinegared rice a piece of sushi sits on, and at Sushiro you can ask for less of it. Ike-jime is the Japanese method of dispatching a fish the instant it is landed so the flesh stays firm. Chutoro is the medium-fatty cut of tuna, hamachi is young yellowtail, and tamago is the sweet omelette. A highball is whisky with soda. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. Sushi! Conveyor belt sushi! So this time I went to eat kaiten sushi, at the Sushiro inside BIGBOX in Takadanobaba. It has been a while since my last conveyor belt place. Every now and then it is a fine thing, sushi you can take lightly!
There should be seasonal items and all sorts on, so the plan is to order whatever I feel like, in a rapid-fire burst!

Eating my way through the whole board

As ever there is a great range on the menu, which is half the fun!
Anything that can be made with less rice, I want made with less rice, so that I can eat more kinds.

Sea bream!

Sea bream!

What was this again? I went hunting through the menu and never quite worked it out — plate number one.
It has to be sea bream, going by the look of it.

Kake udon (180 yen)

Kake, was it? There is wakame seaweed on it, mind^^

Kake udon (180 yen)

And a highball, not to be forgotten! The drinks are cheap here too, which is the beauty of the place. Starting in the early afternoon!

Fried red squid (360 yen)

Fried red squid (360 yen)

Something to pick at, something to pick at.
Octopus has been expensive lately, and perhaps that is why I keep seeing fried squid with a chewy bite that imitates the texture of fried octopus.
Well, they are much of a muchness, and both are good, so no complaints!

Large ark shell (200 yen)

Large ark shell (200 yen)

Two pieces of ark shell for this price!
Though again — I do wish they would serve it with a smaller bed of rice.

Ike-jime sea bream

Ike-jime sea bream

They made the shari small for me! And the sea bream is good!

Ike-jime hamachi

Ike-jime hamachi

This one is bright and clean too. Good.

Fried horse mackerel (200 yen)

The odd ones out are good as well!
I do not need the ric…

Chutoro (180 yen)

Tuna really is good. And at this price! Remarkable!

Shrimp carpaccio-style salad parfait (250 yen)

Shrimp carpaccio-style salad parfait (250 yen)

I was gradually filling up, so — something with no rice on it!
Which is why I ordered the salad parfait. Not bad at all. Salad underneath! But! Why is there corn in it!
Corn fills you up just the same!

Hamburg steak salad sushi

Hamburg steak salad sushi

Salad sushi! I thought, and ordered — and then. Why is there rice on it^^
This place is determined to make me eat carbohydrates! The salad on its own would have done. It does taste good, though^^

Salmon salad sushi (180 yen)

Salmon salad sushi (180 yen)

The salmon salad sushi, which I ordered under the same misapprehension that salad sushi was salad and nothing else^^

Shrimp salad sushi (180 yen)

And the shrimp, likewise. I should have checked one before ordering the rest.

Large whelk (230 yen)

Large whelk (230 yen)

I love shellfish! Good stuff! By the back half of a meal like this, a few slices of this as sashimi would honestly be enough for me^^

Marinated sea urchin wrap (210 yen)

Marinated sea urchin wrap (210 yen)

Well now, this is 210 yen? No off note to it at all, and rather good!
And on that, I called it a finish!

Thank you for the meal!

Right — completely full!
A high satisfaction rating. You can eat as much as you like and drink as much as you like and it is still remarkably cheap. If I had one wish, it would be a no-rice option, at the same price if need be! There are people in this world who do not want the rice! It feels wrong to leave it, so I would rather they put a version without it on the menu from the start! Beyond that, nothing gave me pause at all. Conveyor belt sushi has got good, has it not. I was thoroughly satisfied!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
