A note on the words: in a Japanese bar the master is the owner-bartender, the person standing behind the counter who will pick your next glass for you if you let him. Otsumami are the small snacks you order to drink alongside, rather than a meal. Soda-wari, which comes up here as a rum cut with soda, simply means a spirit lengthened with soda water — the standard way to drink a spirit long in Japan.

Rum Room Tokyo on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.
Hey, this is Hangover Meshi. I’d heard a rumor that a bar specializing in rum had opened in Azabu-juban, so I went along once the night had gotten late. “RUM ROOM TOKYO.” You don’t often hear of a place devoted to rum, and rum can be seriously good stuff. Wondering a little what I’d get to meet, I stepped inside.

Inside it’s a stylish bar with one long counter.
And the number of bottles on the back shelves is something else! Is all of that rum? With this much on hand you certainly could open a specialist bar.
It was my first time in a rum specialist, so I decided to talk to the master and have him introduce me to whatever seemed right.

The style of ordering only the snacks first ^^. Nuts and cheese and I’m more or less set.

A very mellow rum, aged five or six years in oak. I mean, this is seriously good, lol.
Gentle sweetness, a fruity aroma, and a touch of spice as well — delicious. Landing on something this good right off the bat is exactly what you’d expect from the master of a specialist bar!

This was the one recommended to the person I was with. I’m curious about this one too.

A craft rum made with Welsh seaweed. He said it was good cut with soda, so he introduced me to it.
The spice character on it is really nice.

This rum was delicious as well!
Somehow, one thing led to another and I ended up drinking quite a bit. He poured me several, and every one of them had a mellow sweetness and a spiciness to it — very easy to drink and very good. I’ve always been a whisky drinker, but I’m starting to think rum might work for me too. I’ve found a good bar, so next time the night ends and I still feel a little short of a drink, I plan to stop by again!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
