Ishigakijima Misaki Gyu, Akasaka: Good Beef, Wearing the Wrong Sauce

A note on the words: Misaki beef is branded beef from Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture. Yakiniku refers to Japanese-style grilled meat, and tare is the sweet-savory soy-based sauce brushed on it. Hamburg steak is a seasoned patty served on a plate rather than in a burger bun. Noren are fabric curtains hung in doorways and openings, used here to screen the seats.

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. Right near the entrance to Akasaka Station is a Misaki beef restaurant called “Ishigakijima Misaki Gyu Akasaka ten”. A heavy wooden sign hangs outside and made me think it looked on the expensive side, but they seem to have started lunch recently, and seeing a menu out front, I was curious and decided to go in. Heading down into the basement, it turns out to be a black-toned, stylish space, ha.

There are three lunch options: the yakiniku set, the hamburg steak, and the curry. I really want to eat curry, though.
Still, this is a Misaki beef place, so I figured maybe the yakiniku set would be better for the first visit. So I went with the yakiniku set.

Something that struck me was that the seats have noren curtains, giving them a semi-private room feel, which is nice.

How to put it — rather than a yakiniku set, it feels more like they brushed sauce onto steak and grilled it, I wonder?
Taking a bite, it is good. Well, the meat is Misaki beef after all, so it is delicious. It is quite tender, and the flavor of the meat might be quite strong.

However, as I kept eating, the yakiniku tare is good, but the feeling gradually grew stronger: I really wish they would just grill this plain and let me eat it with salt, soy sauce, or wasabi! Hmm, wouldn’t steak have been better, I wonder? It goes well with rice, though. So while it is delicious as a yakiniku set, I felt a little conflicted. Maybe this is a strategy to make you want to eat steak and hook you for dinner, ha. If so, I fell right into it. Also, the soup was a very rich corn soup and delicious.

Thank you for the meal!

And so, the Misaki beef was delicious. It is on the pricey side, but next time I am curious about the curry, so I might want to go try that. I wonder what dinner is like. I thought that if the curry turns out well, I would like to try dinner here too.

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
