Quand l’Appetit Va Tout Va, Azabu-juban: Drinking in the Afternoon

A note on the words: nomihoudai is Japan’s all-you-can-drink deal — order it and refills are unlimited for a set time. Achar is an Indian-style pickle, tangy and salty; this bistro pairs French and Italian small plates with a handful of Indian dishes, including a rotating achar of the day. Ahijo (from the Spanish ajillo) is a sizzling garlic-oil dish served in a small skillet.

QUAND L’APPETIT VA TOUT VA! The Kitchen & Wine on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.

Hangover Meshi here. This time I went looking for somewhere I could drink starting from the daytime, and would you believe it, there’s a place right in Azabu-juban! “QUAND L’APPETIT VA TOUT VA! The Kitchen & Wine.” It looks like a mostly Italian, wine-focused restaurant, but they have an all-you-can-drink plan available from daytime hours — and a private room was open too. It felt like fate! I booked a reservation right away and went.

It’s right next to a gas station in Azabu-juban ^^

Menu highlights

Karapeti Course — 9,900 yen

Free-flow all-you-can-drink — 3,000 yen

Amazing place — you can add all-you-can-drink on its own for just 3,000 yen.
Can’t beat that! So I decided to go with a la carte plus all-you-can-drink.

A la carte + all-you-can-drink (3,000 yen)

First up, a free-flow highball!
Wine is included in the deal too, of course, so wine lovers should be well satisfied! I never did find out what whisky went into this highball, but it had a nice smoky edge and was delicious. Wish I’d asked.

A la carte + all-you-can-drink (3,000 yen)

Chef’s choice trio of appetizers (1,820 yen)

This, by the way, was plated for what I’m guessing was about six people.

Chef’s choice trio of appetizers (1,820 yen)

Smoked aged duck, salmon carpaccio, and tomato and mozzarella, I believe.

Assorted prosciutto (1,880 yen)

Assorted prosciutto (1,880 yen)

Tandoori assortment (3,120 yen)

Looking at the menu, alongside the Italian dishes there also seem to be curries — Indian food, basically.
I guess Italian and Indian cooking both use ovens, so maybe there’s some common ground!

Tandoori assortment (3,120 yen)

So I ordered the tandoori assortment.
And wow, it looks amazing! Took a bite and the chicken is moist with great spicing. That char on it tastes fantastic too. This is properly authentic tandoori chicken. The Italian food is great, but who knew the curry side would be this good too!

Chorizo and broccoli cheese ahijo (1,280 yen)

Chorizo and broccoli cheese ahijo (1,280 yen)

Cheese ahijo sounded amazing, so I went with the chorizo broccoli version.
There’s no way this isn’t delicious lol, it’s a sure thing. Cheese and broccoli obviously go together, but adding chorizo for a bit of heat takes it to another level. Your drink disappears fast with this one. Great for pairing with alcohol!

Today’s achar (770 yen)

Today’s achar (770 yen)

If the tandoori’s this good, why not! So I ordered the achar too.
Good as a snack with drinks. By the way, checking the English on the menu for today’s achar, it read “Tuna & Mula Achar,” so it’s a tuna and daikon achar! Tasty.

House-made spicy chorizo (980 yen)

Teriyaki chicken (1,950 yen)

Teriyaki chicken (1,950 yen)

And last up, pizza! Honestly, I’d had so much to drink by that point that I’m not 100% sure what pizza this was, but with all that chicken and what looks like mayo piled on, it’s got to be the teriyaki chicken! Anyway, plenty of food and plenty to drink — thoroughly satisfied. And to think you can do all this starting from lunchtime!

Thank you for the meal!

So, if you like to drink, this place is impossible to resist! The atmosphere is great, and if you drink in a private room you won’t bother the stylish lunch crowd around you. You can also add the all-you-can-drink deal on its own (and you can even extend it, with pricing set per extra hour!). Ordering whatever you like a la carte while drinking all you want — what a way to use this place! Thoroughly satisfied. Recommended!

Tabelog lunch rating ★★★☆☆ 3.7

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
