Nachos and Mezcal at LAS DOS CARAS, Harajuku

A note on the words: Harajuku is the youth-fashion district beside Meiji Shrine in western Tokyo. Mezcal is a Mexican spirit distilled from agave. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. I had come out around Harajuku, and thinking that I know absolutely nowhere to drink at night around here, I searched — and found a Mexican place! Rather nice, no? So off I went straight away, and the atmosphere turned out to be tremendous lol The building is apparently called Cascade Harajuku, and the shop is in the basement of somewhere extremely stylish.

And what a large, stylish shop it is.
I had the impression there were not many restaurants like this around Harajuku, but they are there if you look!

Menu highlights

Porchetta tacos 2,000 yen

Grilled Patagonian lamb chops 1,800 yen

Grilled asparagus and green beans 1,400 yen

Beef fajitas 3,200 yen

Pork fajitas 2,500 yen

Tacos emperador 2,550 yen

There is simply an enormous menu and I could not decide!!!
Everything really does look good, and the menu itself is stylish, covered in masked wrestlers lol

Which is to say — what a waste to be here as a second stop of the night! I wanted to eat a great deal more from the start…

A la carte

A drink first!

A la carte

Mezcal Negroni! I learned about mezcal the other day at another Mexican place (in Japanese), so I ended up ordering it ^^ Delicious!

Classic nachos, small (750 yen)

Classic nachos, small (750 yen)

Nachooos! House-made chili con carne with salsa, guacamole, jalapeno, cheese sauce and sour cream!
The chips have a just-fried quality to them and are wonderfully crisp. Delicious. This really is very good. Light chips with a generous pile of toppings, and the satisfaction is high.

Chili con carne (650 yen)

Chili con carne (650 yen)

I ordered this along with the nachos at the start, and the staff checked with me — it is already on the nachos, are you sure?
I am sure! Chili con carne is a great favorite of mine! I answered, and had them bring it ^^
Chili con carne is delicious, is it not. The flavor of the slowly cooked beans, yes, but also the way the spice and the acidity of the tomato come together. Lovely. What is on the nachos is not enough! Pile a huuuuuge amount of chili con carne onto those nacho chips and eating it is bliss!

Mexican chorizo (650 yen)

Mexican chorizo (650 yen)

A delicious chorizo with the scent of cinnamon and spice drifting up.
There is a firm heat to it too, so it goes with a drink, and the tomato sauce over it is a clever touch. It is this that makes it feel like a proper dish! Chorizo simply grilled and served on its own is a little plain, after all!

Jalapeno fritters (650 yen)

Jalapeno fritters (650 yen)

Deep-fried jalapenos stuffed with cheese. They look tremendous!!!
One bite and it is hot, but not searing. The melting texture of the cheese and the crisp outside are both good, and perhaps the cheese rounds off the heat, because it is very easy to eat and very good. Looking at the menu there seems to be a Russian-roulette-style version where they make one of them searingly hot, but perhaps I should have asked for all of them to be searing from the start lol

Jalapeno fritters (650 yen)

The Picante Rickey, a spicy highball. It has chili, jalapeno, lime and so on in it, and it is a highball with a thoroughly Mexican feel lol I want this in every izakaya in the country…

Thank you for the meal!

It has been a while since I met a shop this good! The atmosphere is tremendous, everything is delicious, and it is a very good place indeed! I had thought there were no shops around Harajuku open late at night, but this one runs until around 23:00, so it is easy to use. I want to drink here from the start next time! Everything looked so good that I resolved to hold an eat-the-whole-menu session here without fail.

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
