A note on the words: soup curry is a Hokkaido invention, thinner than the usual Japanese curry and served as a bowl of spiced broth with large pieces of meat and vegetable in it, with rice alongside rather than under it. You pick your heat level by number and often pay extra above a certain point. Hyakumeiten is Tabelog’s annual hundred-restaurant list for a given genre. Amazake is a sweet, thick drink made from fermented rice, usually non-alcoholic. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Soup Curry Kamui on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.
Well then, this is Hangover Meshi. I wanted curry! So off I went to Soup Curry Kamui in Akihabara — or is it Kanda? It is a well-known place, so I shifted my timing and dropped in at around three in the afternoon. I had no idea there was a soup curry shop here! Inside there was one other customer. At this hour it is quiet, as you would expect^^

There is Akihabara-style pop art inside^^ Rather sweet, is it not.

Pork and vegetable curry 1,545 yen
Camembert chicken curry 1,545 yen
Camembert pork curry 1,595 yen
Chicken and vegetable curry 1,490 yen

The heat goes up to level 10, apparently. From level 4 it costs extra!
After a great deal of dithering I settled on the camembert chicken curry. Level 4 for the heat.
I thought about a lassi to drink, but somehow ended up with a highball^^;

There was also a limited-run amazake lassi^^

And after a while, the curry arrives!!

Oh! It looks wonderful!
Vegetables and cheese in great chunks. Large pieces do look good in the bowl.
One mouthful and — delicious!! I went for level 4, and the heat is just right.
The camembert rounds it off considerably, so I could have gone a little hotter.
The curry itself has a properly complex spice fragrance but comes across clean. There is body to it, and you can taste the vegetables. The carrot is soft and full of sweetness, delicious. And the crowning thing is the chicken, falling apart! This is good.
I do not often choose soup curry, but this is thoroughly good.
It goes with rice, but it goes wonderfully with a highball too! Delicious.

And this is the chicken and vegetable curry!
Apparently the most popular thing on the menu. Chunky vegetables in this one as well.
Eggplant, carrot, green pepper, tomato, broccoli! All of it looks good. I do wish they would make an everything-in version with the camembert added to this! Perhaps the toppings can more or less get you there^^
A Tabelog Hyakumeiten pick, and it shows — a thoroughly delicious soup curry. I do not know how busy it usually gets, but I now know that going at around three in the afternoon leaves it fairly empty, so that may be the window. For anyone who wants chunky vegetables in a fragrant, full-bodied soup curry, this comes highly recommended! The Akihabara and Kanda zone has a good number of curry shops, so perhaps I should make the rounds.

Tabelog lunch rating ★★★☆☆ 3.7
I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
