Bar Portillo, Nakameguro: Tapas Worth Photographing

A note on the words: a bar in the Spanish sense is a casual place for drinks and small plates, which is what this shop is named after, and tapas are those small plates. Pan con tomate is bread rubbed with tomato, salmorejo is a thick cold tomato soup from southern Spain, and aioli is a garlic sauce. Iberico ham is cured ham from the Iberian pig. All-you-can-drink here means nomihodai, the fixed-price drinking window that Japanese restaurants attach to a set course, usually only for groups. Nakameguro is a canal-side district in Tokyo. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Right, this is Hangover Meshi. Dinner this time is at Bar Portillo, a Spanish place in Nakameguro. It sits a fair way back from the station, so there is a bit of a walk^^ The further in you go the more stylish the buildings become, and in among that quietly in-the-know feeling there is this smart-looking shop^^ Open the door and you step down a level into the room.

Bar Portillo

Inside, too, it is a bar in the Spanish sense through and through^^ A very good feel to it.

Dishes worth noting

Signature dishes, a main, and two rice dishes of your choice as well! The special course, recommended for parties: 5,700 yen

Tapas and paella course, with two rice dishes of your choice: 4,700 yen

[2 hours all-you-can-drink] Tapas and paella course, with two rice dishes of your choice (4 people or more): 7,000 yen

[2 hours all-you-can-drink] Signature dishes, a main, and two rice dishes of your choice as well! The special course, recommended for parties (4 people or more): 8,000 yen

Two courses, and with four people or more you can add all-you-can-drink.
There were four of us this time, so of course we took the drinks! The course was the special one, 8,000 yen with all-you-can-drink!

[2 hours all-you-can-drink] Special course (4 people or more) (8,000 yen)

First, a highball, please (not wine, then? lol)

Iberico cured ham (foreleg)

Iberico cured ham (foreleg)

Cured ham from Iberico pigs raised on acorns. It comes to be eaten with pan con tomate!
Pile the ham on top, eat the two together, and it is seriously good! There is a generous amount of ham, enough that once the bread is gone you can still pick at what is left as a snack with your drink.

Assorted tapas, six kinds, chef’s choice

Assorted tapas, six kinds, chef’s choice

The six-kind tapas assortment! The dish it comes on has a handmade look, which is rather nice lol
For a while we sat picking at these and drinking.

Eggplant fritters

Eggplant fritters

A cold tomato soup called salmorejo comes with it, and the idea seems to be to dip.
The eggplant is crisp outside and fluffy within. Thanks to that tomato-based sauce — soup? — it eats cleanly for something deep-fried.

Oven-baked cod and zucchini with aioli

Cod and zucchini baked in the oven.

The way to eat it is with the garlic aioli.

Braised beef!

Braised beef!

They said we could choose braised beef or braised pork, and this, I think, is the braised beef.
The menu said steak, so perhaps the meat dish had been swapped out this time as well?

Paella

With the paella you pick any two you like.

Paella

The first — the photo is a little blurred lol — squid ink paella.

Paella

The second costs 880 yen extra, but we asked for the lobster paella, so here it is!

Paella

I got the joint of the arm lol The claw and the tail are the jackpot^^

Dessert

Dessert

Ice cream! You can apparently switch to cheesecake for 550 yen more, but this time I left it as the ice cream.

Thank you for the meal!

So — one way and another, we drank a fair amount. Plenty to drink, and as casual Spanish food goes this struck me as a good place you could use without ceremony. If anything, I suspect ordering what you like a la carte would satisfy more than taking the course, but 8,000 yen with all-you-can-drink! If you want to keep it reasonable, this is the way^^

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
