Ascott Marunouchi Tokyo: The Breakfast Buffet on the 22nd Floor

A note on the words: laksa is a Southeast Asian noodle soup, usually built on a spiced coconut or sour broth. Natto is fermented soybeans, sticky and strong-smelling, eaten over rice at breakfast. Umeboshi are salted, pickled plums. Miso soup is a broth seasoned with fermented soybean paste. Kikurage is the wood ear mushroom, dark and crunchy. A buffet of this kind is called a baikingu in Japanese, and it means exactly what buffet means in English.

Drinkers, thank you for waiting! It is Hangover Meshi time!

This time I stayed at the “Ascott Marunouchi Tokyo” in Otemachi. It is a rather nice hotel, with a pool and a gym inside and so on. I had asked for a fairly roomy room without breakfast. And then, when I checked in, they told me that if it was my first time signing up for Ascott membership, they would throw the breakfast in!

They also gave me ginger beer and sweets just for checking in

I had assumed I was going without breakfast, so what luck! And a 3,000-yen buffet breakfast at that — wonderful!

The buffet is held at a restaurant on the 22nd floor called “TRIPLE ONE.”

Apparently the laksa and the like are what they are known for

Breakfast starts at 7:00! I somehow managed to get up and headed straight down!

Breakfast buffet (3,000 yen)

Rice, umeboshi, natto and sausages.

Breakfast buffet (3,000 yen)

All sorts of salads, and miso soup. For something eaten in the morning there is a generous spread, and my eyes kept wandering!

Breakfast buffet (3,000 yen)

For bread there is plump pain au chocolat, and croissants. Warm, fluffy, freshly baked bread is a fine thing. A high-end hotel breakfast buffet, as you would expect.

There is a bit of a “in the morning?!” feeling to it, but they also have chilled jellyfish and stir-fried vegetables. They do.

And what I came back with was this!

Breakfast buffet (3,000 yen)

A big pile of salad, plus the kikurage and celery parts of the stir-fried vegetables!

Somehow this is a lineup that gives away a hangover on sight… ha

Chilled jellyfish, pickled cucumber, one slice of bacon and one sausage, broccoli, and one of those spring-roll-ish things. Well, my condition was not all that good, so this is about right!

Beyond that, if you tell them how you want your eggs done, they will make them for you.

Breakfast buffet (3,000 yen)

Sunny-side up! Nicely judged cooking.

After that I took one pack of natto, and breakfast was done!

Thank you for the meal!

I found out afterwards that the place is apparently Singaporean, and they seem to have had laksa and so on, which I missed completely ha. Well, I still had some alcohol in me and I was wobbly from having just woken up^^ If the breakfast buffet was going to be this good, I should have gotten myself in shape and gone easy on the drink the night before!

May you meet something good to eat today too.

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
