WINEHALL GLAMOUR, Akasaka: Wine and Small Plates

A note on the words: Kuroge Wagyu means Japanese Black, the breed of cattle the word wagyu usually points to. Otsumami is the general word for the small savory plates you order to drink with, rather than as a meal in courses.

WINEHALL GLAMOUR Akasaka on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.

Hey, this is Hangover Meshi. You know how there are places you suddenly register while walking past — “Wait, was this always here?” WINEHALL GLAMOUR Akasaka was one of those for me. It’s a big, obvious storefront, so it’s not that I didn’t know it existed; I just don’t walk around this area after dark much, so I’d never noticed it.

I peered inside and it was reasonably busy, but the seat right on the outer edge was free — lucky!

There’s a good range of otsumami — small plates to drink with — but the wine is somehow cheap.
They run a membership scheme, and members get discounted at an alarming rate. I wondered what was going on and looked it up: there’s a Diamond membership at 20,000 yen a year, and the discount rate on that is ridiculous. Well, if you’re going to come here often, joining might be worth it.

A la carte

For now I went with a red. I’m not a member, after all — something reasonable, nothing expensive.

And here’s what I paired with it!

Italian chilled tomatoes (600 yen)

A tomato salad. Light and tasty! The sharp, acidic dressing works nicely.

Cheese! It comes with crackers, though honestly I could have done without the crackers.
The cheese at the front was a slightly sweet one that wasn’t really to my taste, which was a shame!

Kuroge Wagyu grilled with natural salt (2,227 yen)

And then the grilled Kuroge Wagyu. A simple style, eaten with salt. Fairly firm beef with a solid, sturdy feel to it.
It goes with red wine. Well, it’s meat!

Thank you for the meal!

The wine here is pleasantly cheap, so you end up drinking more than you meant to. There’s a good variety of snacks too, so it could work as an everyday spot. Membership makes the wine dirt cheap, and it sounds like you can use it at the other WINEHALL GLAMOUR locations as well, so for anyone who really would use it a lot, Diamond membership might be well worth recommending.

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
