A note on the words: pork braised in beer is a bistro classic cooked slowly in beer until fork-tender, carottes rapees are grated carrots lightly dressed in vinaigrette, and kakuni is Japanese slow-braised pork belly. In this article, the braised pork looks remarkably like kakuni, served tender and glossy, with mashed potato and roasted green beans alongside.

Grand Gosier on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.
Hello, this is Hangover Meshi. This time I headed to “Grand Gosier,” a charming French bistro in Ichigaya! Located on the next street over from Limelight, the hamburg steak spot I visited before, it’s a neighborhood French bistro. It has a genuinely wonderful atmosphere, right down to the heavy wooden door. Above all, the signboard is adorable! Having wondered about it every time I walked by, I was excited to see what they had to offer.

1,200-yen lunch — 1,200 yen
1,700-yen lunch — 1,700 yen

You choose your main dish from the options below.
- Today’s market fish — sauteed meji tuna (young bluefin) from Sasebo with a Provencal tomato sauce
- Pork braised in beer
- Roast chicken thigh with fresh basil sauce
- Slow-simmered beef stew (plus 100 yen)
- Salmon and spinach quiche
Every one looks tempting. After debating for a bit, I went with the pork braised in beer!

Looks delicious!
Or rather, the salad dressing is amazingly good! It’s a simple dressing, but the aroma of herbs is fantastic. Having carottes rapees (shredded carrot salad) on top is a lovely touch too. The shredded carrots soaked in dressing taste great.
The warm carrot potage turned out to be unexpectedly light and smooth.
I had imagined something thick and heavy, but it’s light yet full of deep flavor, and very tasty.

In appearance, it looks completely like kakuni (Japanese braised pork belly), ha.
The lovely aroma of the sauce wafts up, instantly whetting the appetite.
It’s braised until meltingly tender, with gentle saltiness and an elegant flavor. So good.
The velvety sauce coats the pork beautifully and goes wonderfully with rice.
It has a deep flavor that really shows the care that went into it!
It comes accompanied by mashed potato and roasted green beans. I polished it off in no time.
It was thoroughly delicious! And at 1,200 yen for this, it feels like quite good value. Looking around the dining room, some of the evening menu was posted. It looked remarkably good. It makes you want to come in the evening for wine and a light spread of appetizers. I’ll definitely be back!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
