THE MATCHA TOKYO, Solamachi: The Almond Latte

A note on the words: matcha is powdered green tea, whisked rather than steeped, and the shops that specialize in it grade their leaf the way a coffee roaster grades beans; Gokou is the name of one such grade here. Solamachi is the shopping complex at the foot of Tokyo Skytree, in Oshiage. Prices are as of this writing (August 2026).

Hey, this is Hangover Meshi. Honestly, well, that is about what you would expect.
I had some business to take care of in Oshiage. Since I was there anyway, I figured I would swing by the Skytree, or rather Solamachi around it, and it turned out to be almost entirely foreign visitors lol Have Japanese people already done their one lap of the Skytree and moved on^^? Solamachi leans pretty hard toward Tokyo souvenirs and shops aimed at overseas visitors. Well, it is not quite as extreme as that makes it sound, but between things like the food-sample displays and everything else, I can see why it is such an interesting spot for people visiting from abroad^^

In the middle of all that, I figured I would stop for a break, and that is how I ended up at THE MATCHA TOKYO.
Where did I even hear about this place… I have a feeling it was on TV, introduced as some kind of matcha cafe.

Menu highlights

Matcha — 680 to 1,100 yen depending on the variety

Matcha latte — 780 to 800 yen depending on the type of latte

Matcha soft serve — 750 yen

Matcha ice cream — 750 yen

Organic coffee — 650 yen

It is all matcha, all the way — though there is coffee too lol
The most expensive matcha is one called Gokou, at 1,100 yen. I would guess it is popular since visitors from abroad are surely going “Matcha! Matcha!” About 80% of the people drinking here were from overseas^^. But coffee has its own variety-by-variety thing going too, so I think there is a real chance it catches on the same way down the line^^

MATCHA ALMOND LATTE (800 yen)

I figured I would start with a matcha latte.
You get to choose what kind of milk it is cut with — regular latte, almond latte, soy latte, oat latte, that sort of thing.
Well, almond latte it is, I decided, and ordered.

And here is what came out.

MATCHA ALMOND LATTE (800 yen)

Hmm.
Taking a sip, there is definitely a nice matcha aroma.
This would be great for someone who is not a fan of coffee but loves matcha lol
If you skip the sugar, it is basically just matcha cut with almond milk, so it goes down very easily.

800 yen for this, huh — I cannot say the thought did not cross my mind lol
But I got to use a seat and take a proper break, so lol I am satisfied!

Thank you for the meal!

The matcha was poured from what looked like a pot, and the milk went in straight from a carton, but I could not help thinking a bit more atmosphere and showmanship might delight overseas visitors even further lol (I can already hear someone saying, it is selling plenty fine as it is! lol) A matcha break every now and then really is not bad!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
