Keema Curry at TADA CURRY, Meguro (Now Closed)

This shop has since closed. The piece is kept as a record of the visit. A note on the words: keema is minced-meat curry. Fukujinzuke is the crunchy, sweet-soy pickle relish that comes alongside curry in Japan almost by law. Aimori means having two or three different curries served together on one plate.

TADA CURRY

TADA CURRY on Tabelog (English) — opening hours, payment details and the Japanese address are kept up to date there, not here.

Right, this is Hangover Meshi. I had an errand in Meguro and had walked to the station, and it was exactly lunchtime. I looked it up and there are several places famous for curry, are there not. And so this time I decided to try the curry shop nearest to where I was standing, “TADA CURRY.” When I arrived there was one group queuing, but that much is fine, so I waited. It is a small shop with only a countable number of counter seats. It seems to be run by two people, so I waited patiently.

TADA CURRY

The good smell of spices is drifting all around!

Menu highlights

Chicken curry, 1,100 yen

Keema curry, 1,100 yen

Thai-style green curry with shrimp, 1,200 yen

TADA CURRY

On top of the three basic curries there are all sorts of toppings!
Extra heat, or a fried egg, or cheese, vegetables, beans, and even the size of the rice and the amount of sauce.
And there also appears to be a system called aimori, with two-curry and three-curry plates.

For a menu with only three curries there is far too much to choose from and I am spoiled for choice!
Queuing a little may even be a good thing, since it gives you time to decide.

Keema curry

And after much dithering, at last my turn!
In the end I went for the keema curry, small rice, with a fried egg on top.

After a short wait, here it is.
Looks good!!! It is a curry made with Daisen-dori chicken stock and no added MSG, apparently — and how does it taste!
One mouthful and, mmm, cracking. The fragrance of the spices whets the appetite!

The moist keema curry has plenty of beans in it, and with every chew the presence of the beans and the bright flavor of the spices spread! The savor and sweetness of onion form the base, with the flavors of ginger and garlic and a little sourness from tamarind added as an accent, producing a flavor with real depth. The heat is restrained, with a pleasant tingle that comes on gradually.

With a soft-set fried egg on top, a roundness is added, and it is a perfect match with the spicy keema curry.

Anyone eating the keema, the fried egg is a must!!

Somehow the flavor of the curry itself may be close in lineage to something like Indera Curry.
Fukujinzuke and vinegared onion are also set out on the counter, so you can enjoy changing the flavor as you go. Yes, delicious.

Order the two-curry plate and this is how it arrives.
The Thai curry has plenty of vegetables and looks good! And the rice feels like rather a lot, ha.
I was right to go for the small rice ^^

Thank you for the meal!

So, a curry shop I dropped into casually, and it was as good as its reputation. Rather than a flavor you can only get here, it is more a case of a carefully made, delicious keema curry. If I worked around here I would be a regular. No wonder it is busy. They apparently close once they sell out (which stands to reason, ha), so if you absolutely must eat here it may be best to go right at opening!

I ate here and paid for it myself. Nothing on this site is a comped meal.
